President Cyril Ramaphosa has landed in Canada to attend the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, where he is participating at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The summit is being held in the province of Quebec under the theme “Building a Sustainable and Peaceful Future Together.”
Ramaphosa is representing both South Africa and the African Union, engaging with world leaders on pressing global issues including peacebuilding, climate change, and financing for sustainable development.
According to the Presidency, the summit presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen multilateral cooperation and ensure that Africa’s voice is included in shaping solutions to global challenges.
Key agenda items for this year’s gathering include global peace and security, pandemic preparedness, climate action, and strategies to promote inclusive economic growth in a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape.
President Ramaphosa is expected to advocate for greater support for developing economies, particularly on issues of climate finance, infrastructure investment, and fair access to global markets. He will also engage in bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union as a non-enumerated member. South Africa’s participation underscores the country’s growing diplomatic engagement and its leadership role on the African continent.
