The approach focuses on consistent affordability rather than short-term promotions, so customers “always save money” on weekly baskets. Massmart president and CEO Miles van Rensburg called the Walmart Clearwater Mall store a milestone for the company and the wider retail sector, promising a world-class assortment in-store and online.
What Shoppers Can Expect
The Walmart Clearwater Mall store will feature a customer-focused layout with wide aisles, bright lighting, clear departmental flow and efficient checkouts, backed by friendly service. Shelves will carry fresh and frozen foods, groceries, health and beauty, apparel, baby items, homeware, electronics, toys, sports and outdoor gear, plus seasonal goods. The branch sits at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Christiaan de Wet roads in Strubens Valley, Roodepoort.
Local Focus, Global Flavours
Walmart says most products will be locally sourced, complemented by selected international brands. Highlights include Drew Barrymore’s Beautiful range of small kitchen appliances—air fryers, kettles, blenders and toasters—brought in for design and quality.
Jobs and Leadership
The Walmart Clearwater Mall store will employ more than 80 staff. Store Manager Onicca Mothapo, who has two decades of retail experience, will lead the team. She described the role as deeply personal, noting her career journey from cashier to manager of the first Walmart store in Africa.
