Build One SA (BOSA), the GOOD Party and RISE Mzansi have merged under a single banner: Unite for Change. The bloc will register with the IEC and contest the 2026 local government elections as a unified movement. Leaders framed the Unite for Change merger as “one name, one platform, and one purpose.” They offer voters a consolidated alternative to the status quo.

Who’s at the Helm

The founding Leaders’ Council features Dr Mmusi Maimane, Minister Patricia de Lille, Songezo Zibi, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa and Brett Herron. The group says it aims to anchor the party in unity, accountability and a shared vision for competent local governance. “This is not a coalition of convenience,” the parties said in their announcement.

Five Urgent Priorities

Unite for Change set out five focus areas for the 2026 push. These include capable and ethical leadership, local economic recovery, dignity through basic services, safety and justice, and digitisation. These aim to drive smart governance and curb corruption. The Unite for Change merger also commits to a merit-based candidate process that elevates rooted local leaders.

Ground Game Starts Now

A national tour of town halls and community dialogues begins in October to build a grassroots policy platform. The party positions itself as a home for voters who want both values and competence. “Today, we unite for dignity, for justice, for working municipalities—today, we Unite for Change,” the leaders said. The Unite for Change merger also invites like-minded parties, civil society groups and individuals to join.

Why it Matters for 2026

Local coalitions have swung on small margins in recent years. By consolidating three brands, the Unite for Change merger seeks to simplify choices on the ballot. It also aims to strengthen negotiating leverage after results night. Whether this new centre-focused project can convert launch momentum into councillor seats will be tested in communities, ward by ward, in 2026.
