A missing Delft child who vanished three weeks ago is now back home and safe. Nine-year-old Akahlulwa Qwili disappeared on 17 November while playing outside with friends in Delft South. As soon as she went missing fear spread fast and family police and neighbours immediately started searching across Cape Town for any sign of her.

Soon the Western Cape Missing Persons Unit joined the effort. They quickly posted flyers and rallied community support. Although every day without news tested the family’s strength the community refused to give up. Instead they kept sharing alerts and made sure Akahlulwa’s face stayed front and centre.

Found in Crossroads After Vital Tip-Off

Eventually police tracked the missing Delft child to Crossroads. Officers found her after a kind woman spotted the girl wandering the streets alone late at night around 10pm. Without hesitation the woman took her in and cared for her throughout the three weeks.

Then a relative noticed a missing persons flyer in the area. That simple moment led to quick recognition and finally linked Akahlulwa back to her family. The hosts spoiled her with kindness fed her well and kept her safe. However because they didn’t have easy contact details for her dad they never called police.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed: “Akahlulwa has been found in Crossroads and she is safe and reunited with her family.”

Family Relieved but Focused on Healing

When the call came Akahlulwa’s father George Thompson shared the joyful news online. “Akahlulwa has been found safe and sound. We are so happy as a family and the community,” he posted. Suddenly weeks of worry turned into tears of pure joy.

Afterwards doctors at Karl Bremer Hospital examined her thoroughly. She passed every check with flying colours and suffered no harm. Even so the family has already arranged counselling sessions because the ordeal shook the little girl’s world and led to some misbehaviour while she was away.
