The UN has warned that Israeli military expansion in Gaza could lead to catastrophic consequences. As reports suggest, Israel plans to fully reoccupy the territory, international concern continues to grow. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to present the proposal to his security cabinet this week.
A senior Israeli official described the strategy as a “full conquest” aimed at dismantling Hamas. This planned Israeli military expansion in Gaza would significantly escalate the conflict and worsen conditions on the ground.
Civilian Lives and Hostages at Greater Risk
UN Assistant Secretary General Miroslav Jenča stated that the proposed military move puts millions of Palestinians at severe risk. He also said that it could further endanger the lives of 49 hostages still held by Hamas. Families of the hostages have raised alarm, fearing that a large-scale operation may result in more deaths.
At the same time, several Israeli military leaders have voiced opposition to the plan. They argue that Israeli military expansion in Gaza will deepen the crisis and could create long-term instability. Despite these warnings, pressure from political allies may influence the final decision.
Humanitarian Situation Growing Worse
Conditions in Gaza are rapidly deteriorating. Since October 2023, over 60,000 Palestinians have died. UN agencies report that famine is already unfolding. Additionally, more than 1,200 people have died while trying to collect food since May.
Humanitarian aid remains far below required levels. Jenča criticised Israel’s restrictions and called for full, unhindered access for relief supplies. Without urgent action, Israeli military expansion in Gaza will continue to block aid and worsen hunger.
UN data also confirms a rising number of malnutrition-related deaths, including among children. Violence around food distribution points has made access even more dangerous, further deepening the crisis.
Calls for Ceasefire and Legal Compliance
The UN insists that Gaza must remain part of a future Palestinian state, in line with international law. It has also repeated demands for a ceasefire and the immediate release of all hostages.
Global pressure continues to build as Israeli military expansion in Gaza escalates. Without a shift in strategy, the conflict may spiral into deeper humanitarian disaster.
