Western Cape police are investigating a case of triple murder and attempted murder after four men were gunned down in Philippi East on Sunday evening.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut, officers responded to a shooting incident on Govan Mbeki Road, where they found the bodies of three men, aged between 24 and 28, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A fourth man was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
The motive behind the attack is not yet known, and no arrests have been made.
“Organised crime detectives have taken over the investigation, and we are pursuing all leads to track down those responsible,” said Traut.
The Western Cape has seen a rise in gun violence, with law enforcement under pressure to curb ongoing gang-related activity in communities like Philippi East, which have been hotspots for violent crime.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
The incident adds to growing concerns about public safety and the proliferation of illegal firearms in Cape Town’s most vulnerable communities.
