Police confirmed two separate cases of child assault in Western Cape schools. Both involved seven-year-old girls and took place in school toilets at different primary schools.
Authorities opened investigations without delay. Meanwhile, the Western Cape Education Department activated support protocols for the affected learners.
Assault at Fisantekraal Primary
Three male classmates allegedly attacked a Grade 1 girl at Fisantekraal Primary School. The boys punched the learner five times in the stomach and forced toilet paper into her private parts.
Doctors diagnosed a liver infection. The child now experiences ongoing pain, bleeding and frequent urgent toilet visits.
The principal contacted the parents immediately and reported the matter to police. Officials submitted Form 22 to social workers and activated the Safe Schools programme. Consequently, the three boys face disciplinary hearings. The family awaits guidance from the Thuthuzela Care Centre before laying charges.
Rape Case at Atlantis Primary
That same afternoon another seven-year-old allegedly suffered rape in the toilets at Atlantis Primary School. Atlantis SAPS registered the case on 13 November 2025 and transferred it to the Milnerton Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that the investigation continues. Officers have made no arrests so far. The school and department have withheld further details to protect the child.
Wider School Safety Concerns
These events reflect broader challenges with child assault in Western Cape schools. National statistics recorded 99 rapes on school premises between October and December 2024. In addition, authorities logged 454 assaults at schools from January to July 2025.
Parents and education activists now call for improved supervision, particularly in toilet areas and for younger grades. Both November cases remain under active police and departmental investigation.
