Hundreds marched through Tshwane streets yesterday in the Ramaphosa resignation protest, calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign. Demonstrators blamed him for ongoing corruption, poverty, and joblessness that hit South Africans hard.

The march began at Church Square and moved to the Union Buildings. Organizers expected around 300 people despite rainy weather. Civil groups like StandUpSA and Enough is Enough led the charge.

Frustration Fuels Economic Anger

Protesters expressed outrage over soaring living costs and youth unemployment. They criticized Ramaphosa’s leadership as weak and ineffective. One organizer, Khustaz Mtwetwe, said the president fails to deliver justice or economic relief.

“The youth are suffering while he stays silent,” Mtwetwe declared. Natasha Mkhabela from Enough is Enough slammed unfulfilled promises on jobs and gender-based violence. “We are not taken seriously as citizens,” she said.

Molatelo Racheku from StandUpSA condemned government loans that yield no public benefits. “We’re tired of leaders taking loans while South Africa sees nothing,” Racheku stated.

Memorandum Calls for Urgent Action

At the Union Buildings, protesters delivered a memorandum demanding job creation, anti-corruption measures, and removing State Security from the Presidency. They gave the government seven days to respond or face nationwide protests.

Sibusiso Mabuza from the Presidency accepted the memorandum and promised a swift reply. Organizers vowed to escalate actions if their demands go unmet.

Police Keep Protest Peaceful

Tshwane Metro Police managed the event, closing streets like Madiba and Paul Kruger during the Ramaphosa resignation protest. No incidents occurred despite the weather.

This Ramaphosa resignation protest signals a growing demand for accountability. South Africans want leaders who tackle their daily struggles head-on.
