Ithuba denies lottery conspiracy claims after social posts alleged insiders benefit from jackpots. The operator says its draws use certified systems, are independently audited, and remain free of human interference. The company added that the R124 million PowerBall winner bought a ticket via the Absa app.
“We do not, and cannot, know or influence who the next winner will be,”
What Sparked The Rumors?
A viral X post, from an account claiming to be a former employee, suggested jackpots roll until “associates” win. Another post alleged paid online “noise” about wins. There is no verifiable evidence to back these claims and that no formal probe has substantiated them.
Winners Come from Banks and Retail, says Ithuba
Ithuba denies lottery conspiracy claims that big wins only come from certain banks. The operator lists recent Division 1 wins from both retail outlets (cafés, supermarkets and fuel stations) and digital platforms, including app purchases at multiple banks.
Ithuba also says 60% of ticket sales now come via banking platforms, which explains why more digital winners appear over time.
How The System is Secured
Ithuba says every draw runs under strict oversight from independent auditors, surveillance and security protocols. Winners are “determined purely by chance,” and records are kept for audits. Since 2015, the operator says it has channelled more than R15.4 billion to the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund for good causes.
Ithuba encourages the public to rely on verified information and to play knowing “every ticket holds a fair and equal chance of winning.”
